The city has told federal officials it has the needed communitysupport to demolish the Jackson Park leg of the CTA's Green Line eastof Cottage Grove Avenue and is ready to proceed, the Sun-Times haslearned.
That section of the Green Line L tracks received about $9million worth of improvements between 1982 and 1990. Tearing it downwould cost about $15 million.
In a report sent Friday to U.S. Transportation SecretaryFederico Pena, city planners said a poll of 4,923 Woodlawnneighborhood residents and business owners showed that 57 percentsupport demolition.
